On the Occasion of Eric's Birthday

Celebrate April Fool's Day and the advent of spring with a house party
and living room contra dance on 

        Sunday April 1 2001, 5pm PDT to whenever

at the home of Joe Micheals in Magnolia (directions below):

Bring dancing shoes and an instrument and some good cheer and maybe
some food or a Folkfloor donation (but no presents please).  We're
inaugurating Joe's floor to contra dancing.  I'll put up a signup
sheet for callers and bands, and I'm hoping people will take turns
calling and playing and dancing, in the style of a "band scramble".

Much food and drink provided; feel free but not obligated to bring
potluck.  If the weather cooperates there's an outdoor deck and grill.

Reply to this e-mail if you need more directions, or more
encouragement.  (And if you want to be taken off this list.)

Joe is four blocks S of Discovery Park, near Magnolia Ave.  

From 34th Ave W, find W Emerson St. a four-way stop 
between the Thriftway and the Limelight.  Go W on 
Emerson alongside the park to Magnolia Ave, a 3-way
stop.  Turn left (S) onto Magnolia, go 4 blocks to
Bertona.  Look for a large yellow-and-black traffic 
arrow at Bertona.  Joe's house is one block left (E).

From City Center:  take Western Ave to 15th past 
Interbay (not the Magnolia Bridge!) to the Dravus St. exit.  
Turn left (W) onto Dravus;  go up the hill and along 
a jog to 34th Ave W.  Turn right onto 34th Ave W, 
go N to Emerson, turn left, and proceed as above.

From Northlake:  take the Ballard Bridge (15th Ave NW)
S to the first exit across the canal, Emerson St./
Fisherman's Terminal.  Cross the tracks and turn right
(W) at three-way stop onto Gilman Ave.  Follow Gilman
toward Discovery Park;  turn left (S) onto 34th Ave W
(left turn lane).  Go 3 blocks to Emerson;  turn right.

To escape: Proceed W 1 block from Joe's house to Magnolia.  Turn right
(N) onto Magnolia to its dead-end at Discovery Park.  Turn right (E)
onto Emerson.  Proceed to 34th Ave W at a 4-way stop.  Turn left (N)
onto 34th Ave.  Proceed three blocks to a major intersection (Gilman).
Turn right (E) onto Gilman.  Proceed past a cleaners and perhaps one
mile beyond to a 3-way stop that includes a left turn across the
tracks.  (It's the second road across the tracks, but the first with a
stop sign.)  Turn left (E) onto Emerson.  Proceed past Chinook's
approx one-half mile to a cloverleaf at the Ballard Bridge/15 Ave W.
Negotiate the cloverleaf either north to the Ballard Bridge and the
North Side (continue straight on 15th Ave NW to eventually find I-5 at
Northgate) or else southbound to 15th Ave W and Western Ave and the
City Center.  (Note!  The Magnolia Bridge is closed.)
